Special Tools for Special Grooves

When I started whittling chains, I never dreamed that I would someday make something that I would call a Screwdriver knife. these tools will be used to make the straight-in cuts required in chain whittling......

The knives most used in this book, starting from bottom left. #1 small blade knife for small chains, #2 sharp pointed blade knife used to enlarge the X holes, #3 old round pointed knife used to whittle the round balls in the cage, #4 is my first home-made knife and the blade has worn down to half its original size and it is now in retirement, #5 is the big round bladed knife that I show how to make in Figs. #12-16, #6 is the small knife shown in Fig. #36, #7 is another old favorite, #8 is a Case Peanut in a see through handle with the blade shortened and re-shaped for whittling, and #9 is the last and least tiny little blade knife. .....

The knives I have chosen to sell on-line and at the shows I attend can be easily modified on a coarse whet stone.

Tools for Special Grooves

Shown here are the Special Tools for Special Grooves.

From left to right #1 is a store bought skew, #2 is a screwdriver knife, #3 is my first screwdriver knife in which the blade came loose and I wrapped it with a string and then epoxied it as I wrapped it (this is what you would call a poor boy's screwdriver knife). #4 is a 1/" screwdriver knife, #5 is a small saw, #6 is a hand drill, #7 is a 3MM #5 gouge and #6 is a 3/16" gouge. These are all the special tools for special grooves and I would be lost without with and the knives. .....
